‘Green Room’ Review: Tense Thriller Full of Pure Aggression

“Green Room” (2016)

Director: Jeremy Saulnier

Starring: Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, Joe Cole, Patrick Stewart

Movie Review Score: 8ish

This is the most punk rock movie of all time, and it just so happens it’s about a punk rock band. After a failed gig in town, the band gets an opportunity to play a show deep in the woods for a decent payout. The crowd is a metal-loving bunch full of skinheads who want to hear nothing but. The gig ends and the band collects. They begin to pack up to hit the road when they stumble upon something their eyes shouldn’t have seen. The owner and his ensemble do everything in their power to destroy the evidence, and the people who’ve seen it. “It won’t end well.”

'Green Room' Review

“Green Room” is a very tight 95 minutes and features moments that will chill your bones. It’s the perfect date-night movie if you want to grab hold of your partner’s hand while mounting the edge of your seat. Around every corner you feel like you know something will happen, but with this cult, there’s no telling what their exact agenda is and what extremes they’ll go to to accomplish that.

The young cast in Yelchin, Cole, Shawkat and Turner is very good. They get quite cocky at times, but then come back down to earth when they realize what they’re up against. Patrick Stewart is brilliant and intimidating. He’s cool, calm and collected, but the nerve to exert force pulsates through his voice.

“Green Room” is a solid thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s another proven indie flick from the powerhouse A24. Just hope the movie comes to your city!
